Headboards awaiting bedsI found this large beam on the beach at Hightown. It was being used
as a bench close to a fire, so my apologies to the camp fire fans in
need of a new seat.
I like the two enormous bolt holes in what is now
the front of the cross-piece, which I have planed into a curve and
polished, but what I like more is the back of the timber which I have
left showing where the sea has eroded the "soft tissue" of the wood,
picking out the grain in three dimensions. It has of course been treated
with wood preserver so there aren't any sea worms burrowing into the
wood. It will go to make the lintel of a large rustic headboard.

I salvaged these two huge baulks of oak from a local joinery
business which had closed down. They have caused me something of a
crisis of conscience because, strictly speaking, they are unused timber
and haven't had a past life. I suppose I could call them rescued timber.

The plan is to rip the oak along its length to make four substantial Henge headboards. Or maybe two huuuge ones!
