Henge Beds 12 to 15

I salvaged these two huge baulks of oak from a local joinery business which had closed down. They have caused me something of a crisis of conscience because, strictly speaking, they are unused timber and haven't had a past life. I suppose I could call them rescued timber.

The plan is to rip the oak along its length to make four substantial Henge headboards.

This picture looks a little out of proportion because of the positioning of the uprights and the fact that the crosspiece will be lower once the joints are cut. I have enough mahogany for three more frames to complement the oak.

This baulk of timber was in particularly good condition when it was washed up on the foreshore at Burbo Bank. It took the best part of a day to cut it into sections small enough to transport to the car.

The end result is a variety of blocks which could be used as bedside or occasional tables, or perhaps stools. I tried to incorporate the huge original bolt holes in as many as I could.
